The name "Eiko" is a somewhat common Japanese girls' name. The "ko" (子) in the name means "child" and is a very common suffix for a Japanese girls' name. The "Ei" part cannot truly be translated here, because her name in the game is written in Katakana as eeko (エーコ), and thus there is no specific kanji there to pick out--there are quite a few ways to write the name. One common meaning, though, is longevity or prosperity, which gives an interesting meaning to her role as the sole surviving resident of the Summoner's Village.

Her name is pronounced "A Ko," like the letter "A" and then the "co" in "coca cola," for example (har)--not like Eeko, or Echo.
